What started as journaling her frustrations with the Berlin dating scene eventually became Lulu Johnson’s first book.

Lulu moved from Ireland to Berlin in 2015 with a suitcase full of Irish societal expectations: marriage, kids and a house by the time she turned thirty. It didn’t take long to discover that dating in Berlin was a lot more complicated—and far more entertaining—than she had anticipated.

So she thought, ‘to hell with it’, and put her pain to paper. In 2022, Dating in Berlin- Tales of Modern Love & Relationships was published. A witty, brutally honest, and laugh-out-loud collection of real-life dating stories. From an emotionally abusive relationship to unknowingly having a beer with an axe murderer, she has turned her chaotic dating life into a comedy genre.

The success of the book led to the launch of her podcast, Dating, Laughter & Disasters, in 2023. More than 130 episodes later, what began as recordings on her phone has evolved into a growing community, live shows, and a platform for candid conversations about modern dating, relationships, and life’s unexpected twists.

Lulu is also a regular storyteller and speaker, appearing at events including FuckUp Nights, Smut Slam, and SEANCHOÍCHE, where she shares her experiences with humour, honesty, and a healthy dose of self-deprecation.

Beyond the stage and microphone, she hosts popular singles events designed to help people connect in real life, including Speed Twist, Unseen Connections, and Thursday dating events.
